Understanding the Role of a Wedding Celebrant

November 29, 2007

The role of the wedding celebrant consists of many duties which include performing the marriage ceremony. The celebrant must be legally allowed to perform marriage ceremonies. Depending on the type of wedding ceremony you are having, the role of the wedding celebrant can be major or minor.

In many religions, the role of the wedding celebrant is quite involved. Often, it is the job of the celebrant to assess the couple and make sure they are fully prepared to enter into marriage together. This may involve a single meeting, several counseling sessions, or even group sessions with other couples intending to get married. These sessions will include some of the major points that will come up during the marriage, such as how many children the couple wants to have, where they would like to live out their life together, how they handle an argument, and their views on careers. Many couples talk about these potential situations prior to getting married, some couples never feel the inclination to discuss these topics and that can cause a marriage to end prematurely. Since these couples will likely be married in a religious institution, it is the role of the wedding celebrant to ensure that the couple is ready to be bound by their religion and to one another.

Many couples choose to forego a religious ceremony and are married by a Justice of the Peace, a judge, or even the captain of a boat! These people are generally less involved in the planning of the ceremony. In this case, the role of the wedding celebrant is to help the couple by offering them options for vows, performing a run through of the ceremony, and performing the ceremony on the day of the wedding. The role of these wedding celebrants is much more limited.

It is also the role of the wedding celebrant to follow the rules set forth by either the religious institution or the law. They have final say on what occurs during the ceremony and which vows the couple may choose to say to one another. The role of the wedding celebrant is to guide the couple through the planning of their wedding ceremony as well as carrying through with the ceremony on the wedding day.

While it may not seem that the role of the wedding celebrant is any more significant than performing the wedding, couples must realize that a lot goes into planning these wedding ceremonies and must be willing to work with the wedding celebrant. Together, the wedding celebrant and the couple can design the wedding ceremony that the couple has been dreaming about.

Leaving The Reception

November 28, 2007

Traditionally, a bride changed from her wedding gown into a suit or dress for travel at the end of the reception. While some brides choose to honour this tradition, more often, brides will leave their reception wearing their wedding dresses.

Changing from a wedding dress to another outfit was a popular choice when brides left their reception to begin their honeymoon. Especially if travel was involved, the bride would find getting on a plane or train awkward. As a result, many brides chose to bring a suit or a travel dress to the wedding.

There’s no requirement that you change out of your wedding dress at the reception. Some brides prefer not to walk around in their wedding dress, since a dress can be rather heavy, especially if it is covered in beadwork.

The reception is also the place where a wedding dress is most likely to acquire stains from food or drink spills, or dirt from the floors. Under these circumstances, if the dress is an antique, or the bride would like to preserve the gown, changing into a lighter suit or dress is a wonderful alternative.

If you choose a second dress for your reception, there’s no need to go overboard on the expense. A simple outfit can be as lovely and attractive as a traditional wedding dress. It may also be more comfortable to wear when circulating among the guests, and while dancing.

The Truth about Wedding Kisses

November 23, 2007

There is a movie starring Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler called “The Wedding Singer.” In this movie, they discuss what is appropriate for kissing at the altar. While this is going to be a very passionate moment, it is also a moment that is shared with family and friends. They finally decide that the kiss must be passionate with what they call “church tongue.” Until you have either seen this movie or read an article such as this, this may not have even occurred to you. However, it is important to discuss with your partner what you deem appropriate for your wedding kisses.

You have just become husband and wife and it is time to “kiss the bride.” This moment is one that can never be repeated. It should be passionate, but there should be no making out in front of your friends and family. Consider Drew Barrymore’s “church tongue.” These wedding kisses are passionate but slightly reserved. The couple should feel free to embrace one another and there is little limit to how long the kiss should linger. Just as much as the couple should not kiss for too long, the kiss should not be too short either. Enjoy the moment but remember that people are watching! Wedding kisses are an endearing sight to behold.

The wedding kisses do not end at the altar. Once the bride and groom enter the wedding reception, they will be subjected to a common wedding tradition involving wedding kisses. Any time a wedding guest chooses, he or she can use their silverware to tap their drink glass. Whenever the couple hears this beautiful tinkling sound, they must kiss for the crowd. There is no protocol for these wedding kisses, however by the end of the night the couple may have tired lips that make the bride and groom keep their kisses short!

Wedding kisses are a subject that should be discussed prior to the wedding day. This is one of the most fun aspects of wedding planning and practicing those wedding kisses is going to be a great stress relief from all that wedding planning!

Why You Should Have a Unique Wedding Cake

November 22, 2007

You want your wedding to be the most special day of your life. You want a day that you will always remember fondly as well as a day that your guests will remember as well. People tend to commit visual images to memory. This is why we put so much time, effort, and money into planning a visually stunning wedding. This is also just one of the many reasons that you should have a unique wedding cake.

You should have a unique wedding cake so that it becomes a topic of conversation. Guests will want to know why you chose to have such a unique wedding cake and will be appreciative of something out of the ordinary. Wedding cakes can become generic. People expect to see a stunning cake, but it is generally a cake with white frosting and flowers or some other elegant yet simple decoration. Guests will be surprised to see you break away from this mold.

But how do you accomplish this? One of the best ways to create a unique wedding cake is to incorporate your wedding theme and colour scheme. Any bakery that is accomplished in wedding cakes should be able to accommodate special requests.

Another way to ensure that you have a unique wedding cake is to use different flavours and combinations of flavours that people are unaccustomed to. This may mean opting for a layer of carrot cake with cream cheese filling or simply a chocolate cake with mocha filling. Every tier of the wedding cake can be a different flavour, making the possibilities and flavour combinations that much more interesting.

The ultimate goal is to have a wedding cake that will be remembered for years to come. You want your guests to talk about your beautiful wedding and there is no better way than by tempting their taste buds and thrilling their visual senses. Consider all of these reasons and that is why you should have a unique wedding cake on your very special day.

Hurry Up Weddings

November 21, 2007

Typically, a western-style wedding takes months to plan, partially due to the high costs associated with it. In practical terms, if you plan to have the trappings of a traditional wedding, you should expect to spend minimally six months in the planning stages.

As always, start with the venue for the reception. If you can book a reception venue, you can have it pull double-duty for the wedding if you can’t find a place to have your wedding.

Venues book fast for weddings, and many are booked solid months in advance. If you’re stuck for a venue, check wedding chapels, country clubs, public parks, private gardens, university buildings and other non-traditional wedding venues.

If you plan to have a reception, locate a caterer quickly. If your reception will be small, look at booking a restaurant for a private party. Hotels often have smaller rooms and on-site catering services that can accommodate a short timetable. Also talk to the caterer about a wedding cake, if you intend to have one. If the caterer cannot provide one, he or she can direct you to a confectioner that can.

Wedding dresses and bridesmaids dresses take anywhere from eight to twelve weeks to arrive once they’re ordered. They can be acquired sooner, if the bridal shop is willing to rush order. You should expect to pay additional charges, however, if you need your gown in less than eight weeks. To minimize this cost, look for a used wedding dress or allow your bridesmaids to shop at regular retailers for their dresses, or at bridal shops that have dresses in stock.

Invitations can be delivered quickly, and can be rush-ordered when necessary. If you’re in a hurry for your invitations, consult directly with the printer to determine the best way to get your invitations quickly. You’ll need to leave at least four weeks for mailing and responses, so handle the invitation details quickly!

In the weeks before the wedding, you’ll need to create a bridal registry, book a photographer (if you plan to have the wedding photographed), and organise a honeymoon. Creating a registry is time-consuming, but you should have yours completed by the time the invitations are mailed. If you cannot find a photographer or don’t plan to have the wedding professionally photographed, you can still have a studio portrait made prior to (or after) the wedding. A travel agent can help with the honeymoon details and can often find good last-minute deals on travel and accommodations.

Royal Couple Marks 60th Wedding Anniversary

November 20, 2007

Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh will mark their 60th wedding anniversary on November 20. Elizabeth II is the first reigning English monarch to celebrate 60 years of marriage. Celebrations are planned all over the UK to honour the royal couple.

The royal couple will celebrate their wedding with a service of thanksgiving on Monday at Westminster Abbey, where they will be joined by about 2,000 guests including 30 members of the royal family. Political, religious, and military leaders and dignitaries will also be among the guests. Members of the public who were also married on November 20, 1947 will also be in attendance.

German members of Prince Philip’s family, who were not invited to the wedding, will join in the 60-year celebration. Philip’s German relatives were not initially invited to the post-war wedding in keeping with the British public’s strong anti-German sentiment at the time.

Following the ceremony, the royal couple will unveil a commemorative panel in Parliament Square. Other celebrations will continue throughout the week. A web site devoted to the Royal Wedding can be found here.

Simplifying Your Wedding Plan

November 19, 2007

The cost for the average Australian wedding approaches $40,000, so it’s no surprise that couples are looking high and low for ways to save on the tab. If you are planning a wedding and haven’t done so yet, make a budget!

The budget will do two things for you: first, it will tell you how much your dream wedding will cost, and second, it may show you the spots where you can save money. Subject each line item in the budget to the crucial test: “Do I really need it?” If you can’t come up with a good reason to have it, consider it suspect and put it on the “cut list.” Go to the “cut list” when you need to make hard budget decisions.

The food and liquor costs are likely to be the single largest line item at a wedding. In some cases, these costs are buried in the venue rental for the wedding. Many venues require couples to use the on-site catering service and the on-site bartender, which tends to increase the cost of the reception. To cut these costs, you have two choices: invite fewer people, or find a less expensive venue. You may also see some savings if you schedule your wedding in the morning or early afternoon, or in a month when fewer weddings occur.

The wedding dress is likely to be another large line item. As a bride, you’ll be the center of attention, no matter what you’re wearing. Consider purchasing a less expensive gown, buying a used gown or renting a dress. Under ordinary circumstances, if you’d never consider spending $2,000 - $3,000 on a dress, then don’t spend that kind of money on a wedding dress!

Don’t succumb to “tradition” if it’s going to add unnecessary expense. Do you really need to organise an expensive wedding car or will a less expensive model do? Better yet, will your own car do? Do you need to have fresh flowers at the wedding and the reception?

Carefully examine each budget item and eliminate those that don’t add up. Put the money you’ve saved on unnecessary expenses in a savings or investment account. In ten years, you can celebrate with a fantastic vacation.

Cheap Wedding Invitations Don’t have to Look Cheap

November 14, 2007

Almost every couple that gets married has some sort of budget that they must adhere to while planning their wedding. This budget must be divided up so that the bride and groom spend the most money on the things that are most important to them and try to save money on the less important things. Wedding invitations can be a large part of a budget if there will be many guests invited to the wedding; however it is possible to find cheap wedding invitations that look anything but cheap!

It is very important that cheap wedding invitations do not look cheap. This is the very first impression that guests will get about the upcoming event and so it is important to make that first impression a good one! If a cheap wedding invitation looks cheap, then guests may expect to be attending a “cheap” wedding when in fact, the couple was merely trying to save some money in order to serve their guests filet mignon!

The easiest way to find cheap wedding invitations that don’t look cheap is to use the Internet in order to find a good retailer. This retailer should be reliable and willing to send a sample of potential wedding invitations out to the bride and groom to look at before making a large purchase.

Another way to find cheap wedding invitations is to visit a wedding invitation retailer and choose a few potential wedding invitations. Then, go home and search for the exact invitation or something similar on that reliable wedding invitation retailer web site. This is a great way to ensure that you get a great deal on wedding invitations that you have already seen.

An option that many couples do not know about when it comes to cheap wedding invitations is the blank wedding invitation. These invitations are high quality but come at an inexpensive price because it is up to the bride and groom to print out the invitations themselves. This may mean using a local printing service or a nice laser printer in order to achieve the desired printing on the invitations, but it is worth it to save the money for other wedding necessities.

It is absolutely possible to find cheap wedding invitations that look just as beautiful as their much more expensive counterparts. Finding these cheap wedding invitations involves a little research and just a little extra work, but it is worth it when you get to spend that bit of extra money you saved on the wedding gown of your dreams!

Registering For Gifts

November 13, 2007

When planning a wedding, brides often wonder how far in advance they should create their gift registries, what should go on the gift list and where they should register.

Make your gift registries at least six months in advance of the wedding. This will give you time to consider your gift suggestions, and will also allow enough time for you to add suggestions to the registry that you may have overlooked or missed on your first pass.

Minimally, make registries at two different stores and consider making three registries. Don’t duplicate items on the registries unless you’re deliberately asking for more than one of the registered items. Make sure one of your registries is at a national store. Online registries are a must in the Internet age.

Determine ahead of time where you would like your gifts shipped, and check each shipment when it arrives for damage. Also make sure the order was correctly fulfilled. This is a great opportunity to get a jump on thank you notes. Acknowledge to the sender that his or her gift was received.

Consider your requests carefully. Don’t ask for what you don’t need, or can’t store. Keep this in mind when you’re registering. Will you be able to store everything you’ve asked for on your registry? If not, don’t ask for it!

Don’t feel compelled to ask for gifts that aren’t your style. If you don’t foresee a need for crystal, china, and silverware, don’t ask for it. On the other hand, consider asking for “seasonal” items like holiday decorations and linens that you may need or want if you’re just setting up a household.

Make gift suggestions in a range of expenses. This will help your guests give according to their budgets and tastes. Also, make sure you have a sufficient number of gift suggestions on your registry.

If you are comfortable doing so, give your guests the option of donating to your favorite charity. This is a nice route for couples who have already established a household, or who are financially well situated.

Finally, let your guests know where you are registered. You can do this by word-of-mouth or by a small inclusion in your wedding invitation. Encourage your guests to ship their gifts to you prior to the ceremony to avoid transportation problems after the wedding.

US Customs Nabs Wedding Dress Thief

November 13, 2007

United States Customs officials have arrested a driver they say was part of a plot to smuggle an estimated USD$3 million worth of stolen wedding dresses across the US border into Mexico. The driver, who was hired to take the dresses into Mexico, was refused entry into the country. When he attempted to re-enter the United States, Customs officials seized the trailer. A search turned up the stolen dresses. The driver denied knowing the dresses were stolen, but led Customs officials to the operation’s mastermind, Alejandro Parra-Ruiz, a resident of the southwestern State of Arizona. Parra-Ruiz was arrested and now faces charges of smuggling. A conviction carries a 10-year prison sentence and a fine of USD$250,000.

The dresses were stolen in November 2006 from the US charity Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation. The charity was to auction the dresses off to raise funds to support its activities. The dresses have been returned to the charity, which will auction the dresses as originally planned.

High Quality Budget Wedding Invitations

November 12, 2007

The first thing that a bride and groom must figure out before beginning the long process of wedding planning, they must decide on the budget for their event. Very few couples have the ability to plan a wedding without the consideration of a budget. Those independently wealthy couples are lucky, but among the minority. Regular couples need to plan their wedding around every last dime spent. This includes their wedding invitations.

In comparison to the major expenses, wedding invitations can top the list depending on the number of people that will be invited. A lot of money can be spent or the couple can choose to purchase budget wedding invitations. It is possible to purchase high quality budget wedding invitations as long as the proper research is done prior to making the purchase.

The best way to find high quality budget wedding invitations is to first visit a wedding invitation retailer and price out potential wedding invitations. It is important to not make an impulse purchase at this time. Rather, the bride and groom should remember these invitations and look for similar budget wedding invitations through an online retailer.

Budget wedding invitations are easiest to find through a simple online search. These are often the very same invitations that can be seen at a physical retailer. If the budget wedding invitations are not exactly the same, then there are likely to be plenty of similar invitations that are of similar quality.

The best way to ensure that budget wedding invitations are high quality is to order a sample of the invitation prior to placing the complete order. This is usually done as a consideration to potential customers for free or for a minor fee depending on how many different samples are ordered. This extra step is worth it in order to save a significant amount of money.

High quality budget wedding invitations are a great way for every couple to save some money in their wedding budget. This money can then be put towards something else that the bride and groom want for their wedding. High quality budget wedding invitations are the best way to accomplish this!

Wedding Party Dodges Hotel Collapse

November 10, 2007

A wedding party waiting at a hotel in Hunt Valley, Maryland in the US for a photo session in the hotel’s atrium missed injury when the glass ceiling of the eight-storey building suddenly collapsed. When the debris stopped falling, hotel personnel discovered that the accident had not injured a single person in the hotel, including wedding party members and guests of Ben-Tzion and Rochel Groner.

The bride had not yet arrived at the hotel for the photo shoot when the collapse occurred because she was delayed by a phone call from the florist looking for last-minute instructions. Other guests who were lodged at the hotel, were safely in their rooms. The cause of the collapse was not determined, although the building was evacuated as a precaution.

The groom is no stranger to near-misses. At age 16, he was diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia, a rapidly growing blood and bone cancer. The groom, who recovered from the disease following aggressive treatment and a complete bone marrow transplant, was unmoved by either his illness or the roof collapse, thanks to a wedding prediction made by the family’s rabbi when the boy was just eight years old. The groom held onto the prediction as proof that he would live through his illness and marry.

The wedding ceremony itself was scheduled to take place at a hall about a mile away from the hotel, and went on as planned.

Planning A Wedding? Think About Wedding Insurance

November 8, 2007

With the cost of the average Australian wedding approaching $40,000, some couples are not leaving much to chance. Wedding insurance, a relatively new phenomenon here, is catching the attention of brides-to-be who are putting down thousands of dollars on dresses, venues and food. With wedding budgets easily in the five-figure range, couples are left to hope that nothing goes wrong.

Wedding insurance will cover a number of disasters, including the replacement cost of a product or service if the vendor cannot perform according to the contract. If the reception venue burns down three days before the wedding, for example, insurance would cover the cost of organising a new location. Likewise, if a dress shop goes out of business having accepted a deposit, and before the dress is delivered, the cost of a replacement dress would be covered.

Some policies will cover the cost of rescheduling if the weather is not cooperative for an outdoor event. Likewise, if illness or death interferes with the event in some way, most policies will cover the costs associated with canceling the event or rescheduling the wedding for a later date.

Wedding insurance would not cover cancellations on the part of the bride or groom, however. In the absence of illness, injury or some other circumstance that makes it impractical or impossible for the wedding to go forward, if either party deliberately walks away from the event, the insurance will not cover the loss to either party. In other words, if circumstances conspire against your wedding, you’re covered, but if you get cold feet, you’re on your own.

Several major Australian insurers are now writing wedding insurance policies or are considering adding wedding insurance as a product. Currently, the cost of a policy starts at about $250.

Down The Aisle At 96

November 6, 2007

When Bill Rodgers, 96, of Cherrybank in Scotland fell seriously ill for the third time, he knew just what to do. He proposed marriage to his love of 10 years, Liz Stewart. The couple were married at their home on Saturday, November 4 while 50 family members and well-wishers looked on. After the ceremony, the group traveled to Craigie Hill Golf Club in town for a reception.

Rodgers said he asked Stewart to be his wife after his illnesses because he felt he owed her something more than live-in status. The couple are both widowed and share interests in travel to warm destinations, a love of the St. Johnstone Football Club and most importantly, each other’s company. Despite their love of travel, the pair have no immediate plans for a honeymoon, citing their finances as a concern.

Mr. Rodgers says he’s surprised by the attention his wedding has received. The event has been reported around the world. He chalks it up to his age, saying ” I suppose it is unusual to get married at 96.” Mr. and Mrs. Rodgers did indicate that they may travel to Northern Scotland when the attention dies down.

These newer invitations allow the bride and groom to choose beautiful images that represent their love for one another, their wedding, and their personal style. These beautiful wedding invitations help the bride and groom to make their wedding invitations even more personalized.

Beautiful wedding invitations are a necessity when it comes to planning a wedding. These wedding invitations will be sent to friends, family, and even distant relatives and family friends that the bride and groom may not even know! It is important to make a good first impression and give guests a small preview of what to expect on the day of the wedding. Beautiful wedding invitations can do all of this and more!
