UK Couple Surprised By Wedding Cancellation
December 28, 2007
A UK couple who’d planned a destination wedding at a Mexican resort were shocked to learn upon arriving that their wedding had been cancelled by mistake. Ann Campbell and Sam Guilford booked a four-week holiday in Mexico, which included a wedding in Cancun. Two days before their planned wedding, the hotel informed the couple that it had no record of the reservation they’d made for wedding services. The wedding and holiday were booked through a travel agent, which said the error was the result of a mixup between itself and the hotel.
Alternative dates proposed by the hotel were unacceptable to the couple because they would have excluded the couples’ families, who were joining them at the resort for the event. The couple had also planned a reception in their home town, which had to be cancelled as well.
The couple have not indicated their future wedding plans. They are expecting their first child in June.

Latest Trend In Wedding Receptions
December 27, 2007
More couples who are planning their weddings are beginning to add a little sizzle to the reception. It’s not unusual to find couples who want to spend extra money to book a celebrity, or unusual entertainment for their reception guests.
Brides are looking for something that’s unusual without being over-the-top. Strolling musicians, professional entertainers, celebrity look-alikes, dance troupes, drag queens, magicians, comedians and other entertainers are making regular appearances at wedding receptions to provide a little out-of-the-ordinary entertainment for the wedding guests.
Overall, guests are welcoming the change because it adds a little levity to an otherwise ordinary reception. Brides who are looking to add a little sizzle to the reception should consider the space they have available, the guest list and the budget before signing up for professional entertainment.
Talent agencies and management companies should be able to help brides who are looking for reception entertainment. Adding live entertainment to the wedding won’t come cheap, but it may make for a very memorable reception.

Texas Couple Celebrates 80th Wedding Anniversary
December 26, 2007
Minnie Lou and Mel Scott celebrated their 80th wedding anniversary in Palestine, TX in November. The couple, aged 99 and 100, respectively, are thought to be the oldest married couple in the United States. The couple attributes their longevity to “living right”, working and eating three meals a day.
The pair wed on the stage of a traveling tent show, and were offered $25 by the show’s producers for the impromptu wedding. The couple figured the public wedding was acceptable, since most of the guests they planned to invite to their wedding were at the show anyway. The Scotts, who confess to enjoying bacon at breakfast each morning, still do yard work together around the house they built right after they married in 1927.
Mel Scott worked regularly until he was 82, retiring from his job as a night watchman, and Minnie Lou took care of the house. The couple’s only son, James, is now 78, and says that his father only recently gave up driving a tractor and using his chain saw. He also says that his parents’ simple lifestyle has helped him to live conservatively.
For now, the Scotts are looking forward to having the whole family together for Christmas.

George Mason University, in Fairfax, VA, now offers university coursework in Crisis Management and Event Planning. The majority of students who take the class are planning their own weddings, or intend to plan weddings professionally.
Professor Maggie Daniels, who said she had to fight to get the course offered for the first time in 2005, teaches the course. To run the class, she needed 10 students to sign up. She got seventy. This semester, the class has 100 students and the course covers not only the business end of event management, but also how to deal with the inevitable crises that arise, no matter how well an event is planned.
Professor Daniels has written her own textbook on wedding planning. Each class brings something new and unexpected, from working within a small budget to solving last-minute crises. The students’ final project is a 100-150 page group plan for an imaginary wedding.

Including Children In The Wedding Party
December 19, 2007
Brides often struggle with the question of including children in the wedding party. A small child is often pressed into service as a flower girl or ring bearer, but there are a few caveats to consider before enlisting the assistance of a child.
Children have very short attention spans, and lose interest in the events around them quickly. If your ceremony will be long, you may want to think twice before asking a child to participate. If you decide to go ahead with including a child, make sure their part can be executed at the beginning of the wedding ceremony. Allow them to rejoin their parents or other guests with whom they’re familiar immediately following their part of the ceremony.
Children often speak their minds, regardless of the circumstances or how thoroughly they’ve been coached to do otherwise. They also have a hard time understanding that at a wedding, they’re not really the center of attention. While they may relish their walk up the aisle, they may not be so quick to step to the side when their work is finished.
Children are easily excitable and not so easily calmed down. Participating in a wedding can be furiously exciting to a child. The child participant may not have been able to sleep well the night before, or may simply be overwhelmed by the enormity of the event. If other children are present, they may all get caught up in the excitement, making it difficult to bring order to a group of newly discovered playmates.
When you’re planning your wedding party, you’ll need to weigh the importance of having a child in the party with the circumstances of the wedding, the limitations of the wedding venue and the abilities of the individual child to follow directions and remain calm during the ceremony.

Classic or Modern Wedding Invitations
December 18, 2007
Will you choose classic or modern wedding invitations for your impending nuptials? Perhaps there are a few items to consider prior to making this decision. Wedding invitations give your guests their first impression of your wedding and so it is important that you make the right impression. This makes it imperative that you consider the differences between classic and modern wedding invitations before placing your order!
The first thing to consider is the overall atmosphere of your wedding that you are trying to create. Do you want a traditional wedding? Do you want a colourful wedding? Do you want a simple wedding? Is there a special theme or colour scheme running throughout your wedding? This is important to consider when deciding between classic or modern wedding invitations.
Classic wedding invitations are going to be simple in either a cream or white or soft colours. Traditionally, these classic wedding invitations are single sided and printed on a thick cardstock. While many couples choose to have these classic wedding invitations simply because of tradition, other couples are choosing the opposite route.
Modern wedding invitations cannot be summed up quite as easily. They are essentially any wedding invitation that is not considered classic. These wedding invitations may include a lot of colour and images. They may also be much more than a single sided invitation. Some modern wedding invitations include several pages and even pockets to hold necessary information for wedding guests. These modern wedding invitations are perfect for those couples that would like to make a statement about their upcoming wedding.
Choosing between classic or modern wedding invitations is not one of the most difficult wedding planning decisions, however, couples should spend some time and consideration before making this decision. It is easy enough to look online for potential wedding invitations whether they are classic or modern. This should help every couple when it comes to choosing between classic or modern wedding invitations!

Google Billionaire Weds in British Virgin Islands
December 17, 2007
Google co-founder Larry Page wed his long-time girlfriend Lucinda “Lucy” Southworth in a closely guarded ceremony at Necker, a 74-acre island in the British Virgin Islands. The wedding site, which is accessible only by helicopter and boat, hosted as many as 600 guests and was fully rented for the three-day event. Most of the wedding guests were housed at hotels on nearby islands and were reportedly asked to sign confidentiality agreements. The ceremony, which had been expected to take place on December 8, reportedly took place on December 9.
The bride and groom have been dating for several years. Ms. Southworth is a PhD candidate in bioinformatics at Stanford University. Mr. Page left the PhD programme at Stanford to found Google with classmate Sergey Brin.
Among the guests were Bono, of U2 fame, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, both of whom reportedly performed at the reception. The guest list has been the subject of much speculation, and was rumoured to include former US Presidents Carter, Bush and Clinton. The bride’s family also has close ties to the current President Bush. The Clintons said late on Friday that neither of them would be at the wedding, due to Mrs. Clinton’s public appearance schedule.
Richard Branson, who owns the island, was reportedly Page’s best man. Further details of the wedding and reception were unavailable.

Arriving in Style
December 14, 2007
Wedding Cars play an important role in the impression that you make on your wedding guests as well as the simple pleasure that you as a couple will feel from riding in luxury. That is why it is important to choose wedding cars that will have you and your bridal party arriving in style!
Long gone are the days where a couple had to order a limousine to carry them and their bridal party to their wedding ceremony and reception. Of course, this is still a wonderful option for couples, but many couples are choosing different wedding cars that make a statement about their style as a couple.
The term “wedding cars†refers to any mode of transportation that will get you and your bridal party where they need to be. This means that you can order a Rolls Royce or arrive in an old VW bus. Regardless of which car you choose, it is henceforth known as your wedding car.
When you want to arrive in style at your wedding, make sure that it is your style that you will be expressing. When you enter and exit your wedding car, you should feel exhilarated. Riding in a luxury car or a classic car can make anyone feel like royalty. Arriving in a convertible or even on motorcycles elicits an entirely different response! While most couples will choose their wedding cars in order to impress their guests, it is important to consider what you will feel most comfortable with.
There are no rules when it comes to wedding cars and arriving in style. Who is to say what “style†is appropriate and standard for any wedding. It is your choice. Choose a limousine for a traditional feel. Choose a Rolls Royce for a regal feel. Choose a convertible for a lighthearted feel. Choose a horse-drawn carriage for a fairytale feel! It is your wedding and your wedding cars should make you feel like you are arriving in style!

Utah Parents Who Kidnapped Daughter Before Wedding In Court
December 13, 2007
A Utah (US) couple who disapproved of their 20-year old daughter’s choice of husband pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of custodial interference, after telling her they were taking her shopping for wedding clothes, and instead took her to the neighboring state of Colorado, where they attempted to talk her out of marrying her fiancé. Initially, the parents had been charged with kidnapping.
The plea agreement spares the couple from spending any time in jail, but they were sentenced to three years’ probation and must pay the cost of the cancelled reception dinner. Additionally, the parents must meet other court-ordered requirements in relation to the custody of another minor daughter who lives with them.
The bride and her husband were married in a ceremony that took place three days after the original wedding was scheduled. A restraining order prevented the parents from contacting their daughter while the legal matter was before the court. The parents have apologized to their daughter in hope of reconciling with her. The daughter and her husband are still married, and recently welcomed a baby girl.

The Traditional Cutting of the Wedding Cake
December 12, 2007
The traditional cutting of the wedding cake is a beautiful moment in every wedding reception. This tradition can date back as far as The Roman Empire although it was a much different tradition than we know today. It is through the years that the traditional cutting of the wedding cake has changed and evolved into what we know today.
During medieval times, every guest brought a small cake to the wedding. The cakes were then stacked upon each other. If the bride and groom could kiss over the top of the stack of cakes, it was considered good luck. This was the very first recognized version of the wedding cake.
In earlier times, it was the sole responsibility of the bride to cut the wedding cake. She would serve the groom’s family and then the rest of her guests. This was meant to delineate the role change from serving her own family to serving that of her husband. Eventually, this tradition changed into what we know today as the traditional cutting of the wedding cake.
The wedding cake is a symbol in itself. In previous times, the wedding cake was frosted with white icing as a symbol of purity. Just as the bride wears a white wedding gown to symbolize her own purity, the white wedding cake acts in the same manner. It was once known as the “bride’s cake†and the groom had a separate cake. Some couples still opt to have a groom’s cake.
The traditional cutting of the wedding cake as we know it today has originated from all of these older traditions. The modern couple cuts the cake together. Technically, the bride cuts the cake with the help of the groom. Then, they feed the first piece to one another. This symbolizes their willingness to provide for each other throughout their marriage. Couples are also taking great liberty with their wedding cake colours and designs. There is no reason to stick solely to a white wedding cake.
Everyone looks forward to the traditional cutting of the wedding cake. It is a beautiful tradition that guests share with the happy couple. In addition, wedding cakes are often quite delicious and who doesn’t love a good cake!

Potential Disadvantages of Hiring a Wedding Planner
December 4, 2007
It seems that any couple would want to hire a wedding planner when it comes to planning the biggest day of their lives! After all, there is a lot of planning to be done, decisions to be made, and crises to be averted. Why not relax a little and put all of this into the hands of a wedding planner? Before answering that questions, consider these potential disadvantages of hiring a wedding planner.
The first potential disadvantage of hiring a wedding planner is sheer cost. A wedding planner makes a significant amount of money. Any couple that is on a budget knows that allocating that money is very important and it may not be worth the expense of hiring a wedding planner if it means that the couple will have to sacrifice elsewhere such as their reception site, flowers, or honeymoon. This potential disadvantage of hiring a wedding planner is enough to show couples that it is usually worth the money to put in their own time while planning their wedding.
Another disadvantage of hiring a wedding planner is the fact that the couple does not have the full experience of wedding planning. Yes, it can be stressful and sometimes frustrating, but the rewards far outweigh these moments of stress and frustration. Choosing the perfect wedding cake and then seeing it there at your wedding and knowing just how meaningful it is will bring joy to your heart and a smile to your lips. On the day of the wedding when all of the hard work and planning comes together, the stress will melt away because you will know that you brought your dream to life. Allowing someone else to make these decisions for you makes it less special and that is why it is a potential disadvantage of hiring a wedding planner.
The final potential disadvantage of hiring a wedding planner is not getting the wedding you had in mind. Some wedding planners will have their own vision and can be quite persuasive when it comes to making final decisions. These decisions may seem alright at the time, but the day of the wedding, some couples will see that the vision of their wedding planner is not what they wanted. This disaster can be avoided by making your own decisions and planning your own wedding.
These potential disadvantages of hiring a wedding planner are enough to make any couple decide that they have the ability to plan their own wedding. The stress of planning a wedding is well worth it when you see that your dream has become reality!
