Can You Save Money By Having A Destination Wedding

September 1, 2008

Although destination weddings conjure up images of tremendous cost, if you’re the bride or groom, you’re likely to save a bundle. Your guests, on the other hand, will pay a handsome premium to join in the festivities.

Destination weddings are often a better deal for the bride and groom because the travel costs for the guests often eliminate their participation. Additionally, common wedding destinations, like resorts in the Caribbean, Mexico, and Hawaii, offer package deals that include everything, from the ceremony to the flowers, catering, officiant and hotel rooms.

Most destination wedding sites can’t accommodate large wedding parties, and most people won’t or can’t travel to far-off or exotic locales for a wedding, so the guest list is likely to be severely limited. If that’s not a concern, you can save thousands of dollars on a wedding.

Options also include having a wedding reception upon your return for friends and family who did not attend the ceremony. While that increases the cost, it also allows your guests to congratulate you and yours, and celebrate the event.
