NHL Center And US Olympian Mike Modano Weds Singer Willa Ford

August 27, 2007

Mike Modano, center for the NHL’s Dallas Stars and two-time US Men’s Hockey Olympian, wed singer-actress Willa Ford in a sunset ceremony held at the Athens, Texas ranch of a Dallas businessman. Modano and Ford invited about 75 guests, who were bused in to the ranch as a group, to witness the nuptials. Only family and friends were invited to the event. After the event, the guests celebrated with the couple at a seated dinner reception, which featured live music.

The bride, whose given name is Mandy Williford, wore a long cocktail dress she designed herself. Mr. Modano wore a beige tuxedo. Teammate Darryl Sydor and former teammate and US Olympian Brett Hull were the groom’s attendants, and were the only NHL stars to attend the event. Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, a close friend of Modano, was also in attendance.

Ms. Ford, 26, is a singer and actress, most recently cast in the role of Anna Nicole Smith for an upcoming biography of the late starlet. Ford is also well known for her work on the television programme Dancing With The Stars. Mr. Modano, 37, is a center and former captain of the Dallas Stars. He has played with the Dallas Stars (formerly the Minnesota North Stars) for his entire 18-year career. The couple will make their home in Dallas. This is the first marriage for both.
