US Olympic Women’s Hockey Star Marries Maple Leafs Forward

August 23, 2007

US Olympic Women’s hockey star Krissy Wendell wed National Hockey League forward John Pohl on Saturday, August 11 in West Roseville, Minnesota. The afternoon wedding and reception included 200 friends and family. The couple were married in the same church that Wendell’s parents were married. The bride wore a white Mori Lee gown with a four-foot train. The groom wore a black Ralph Lauren tuxedo with a white vest.

Wendell played for the US Olympic Women’s hockey team in both the 2002 and 2006 Olympic Games, and may again play for the team in the 2010 Winter Olympics, to be held in Vancouver, British Columbia. She was also voted the best female collegiate hockey player in 2005 for her work with the University of Minnesota women’s hockey team. Wendell is taking a year off from competitive hockey.

Pohl is a forward for the Toronto Maple Leafs and is also a native of Minnesota. Currently, he is preparing the start of training camp for the upcoming NHL season, which starts in September.

The couple have been dating for seven years, and were introduced by Wendell’s brother Erik, who was Pohl’s college roommate at the University of Minnesota. In lieu of a honeymoon, the couple enjoyed a 10-day holiday in Hawaii prior to their wedding. They will, however, spend a few days at a Minnesota golf resort, prior to the start of Pohl’s training with the Maple Leafs. The couple will make their home in Toronto, Canada.
