A Traveling Reception
September 25, 2007
Most brides plan a wedding that require the guests to gather in a single place at one time. The ceremony and reception are held together, and well-wishers celebrate for an evening with the newly wedded couple.
Wedding feasts are nothing new. They’ve been going on for hundreds - perhaps thousands - of years. In years past, however, it was not uncommon for the wedding to take place in front of a few family members and close friends. Afterwards, the newly married couple would travel to visit those family members and friends who could not attend the wedding to introduce the new spouse and spend some time with family.
Such a tour doesn’t always fit well with our busy lifestyles, but if well-planned, a newlywed couple could make a single, extended trip to several destinations, or a series of short visits over the course of the first year of marriage. Spacing your visits throughout the first year of marriage can relieve the cost burden of traveling, and can also allow you to establish your household and meet all of your regular commitments to work, school or community. If you enjoy traveling, and want the benefits that a small wedding has to offer, or you live far away from your families, this option might work well for you.
This approach requires a lot of advance planning, and clear communication with the family and friends you intend to visit. You would plan to organise a hotel room and a car for your stay. Those family and friends you plan to visit can likely recommend good restaurants and nearby accommodations.
