No Veil? Alternatives For Your Hair
August 30, 2007
Veils are a traditional part of wedding ceremonies in many cultures. European brides first started wearing veils during the time of the Crusades. Women in Middle Eastern cultures have worn veils for thousands of years.
Many modern brides, however, choose to skip the veil, but still want something elegant, decorative and manageable in their hair. The good news is that brides-to-be can find many veil alternatives that look beautiful and complement their wedding attire.
A tiara is a great option for brides who are looking for a veil alternative. Tiaras can be simple or complex, and come in a variety of surface metals. Most tiaras are made of a base metal that is coated with something more attractive. Brides can find tiaras in a variety of colours and styles. Tiaras can be decorated with semi-precious stones, crystals, and filigrees of varying intricacies. If you plan to wear a tiara and also plan to have your hair styled, check with the stylist to determine the styles will best complement your features, and also support a tiara.
Tiaras are usually outfitted with small combs to help them hold onto your hair. Some, however, just sit on your head. Determine how your tiara will be supported, and ask your stylist if he or she needs to make any accommodations for combs or pins.
If you don’t like the idea of a tiara, fresh flowers that match the colour of your dress can make a big impact. The right florals can change the whole presentation of your attire. Make sure that the flowers you choose are light enough to be supported by your hair, and don’t require excessive pinning to make them stay in place. Brides sometimes choose a floral wreath or crown to complement their dresses. As long as the crown is not too heavy and can be well supported, a floral wreath can be a romantic and beautiful option.
Ribbons make a nice, simple addition to your hair and allow you to incorporate the wedding colours into your attire. They usually require little or no fuss, and tend to stay in place by themselves or with a discreetly placed hairpin or two.
Combs also provide a wonderful veil alternative. Combs can be decorated with ribbon, flowers, beads, or lace and make a simple but elegant appearance. They’re far too small to overwhelm the bride’s appearance, weigh next to nothing and make little to no demands upon the wearer.
Feel free to choose something other than a veil for your wedding. The options are endless!
