What’s So Attractive About Designer Dresses?
August 29, 2007
Every year, wedding dress designers produce mountains of dresses for the runway, but few of these gowns ever make it into the bridal shops. Nonetheless, designers make names for themselves by their creations. Should you set your sights on a designer gown?
Designer gowns come in a smorgasbord of lengths, colours, fabrics, styles and textures. In most cases, the designers are trying to stand out, while buyers are trying to find something more traditional. Some designer dresses might seem outlandish on the runway; you’ll see “designer” dresses that resemble nightshirts, the most gorgeous dresses you’ve ever seen and just about everything in between. Keep in mind, they’re trying to get their works noticed. What they show on the runway, and what shows up in the stores are often two different things.
If you decide to purchase a designer gown, understand that those that come from the designer will be truly expensive! Brides can expect to pay thousands – or even tens of thousands of dollars – for designer gowns. Most brides don’t have that kind of budget, and knock-offs will provide a similar appearance at a much lower cost.
Choose a look that complements your body style. Keep in mind that most designers aim for the rail-thin models, so unless you happen to be rail-thin, the design you choose may not look the same on you as it did on the runway. Also keep in mind that many major designers choose their models before they design their dresses. After all, it’s much easier to design a dress that looks good on a model when you know beforehand which model you’re working with!
It’s your day, and you can certainly choose accordingly, but don’t spend too much time obsessing about having a gown from a particular designer. Most of your guests won’t know or appreciate the fact that your dress has come from a particular designer, unless you tell them. Even at that, there’s no guarantee the information will mean anything!
The radiance that comes from within is what makes every bride beautiful on her wedding day. You’ll be beautiful to your intended and to your guests, no matter what dress you choose and who designed it.
